Czech International master (1953) who represented Czechoslovakia at the Olympiads of 1927, 1927 and 1931 and Germany at the European Team Championship in 1957.
In 1938, Gilg changed his citizenship to become German and finished second at the 1926 German championship and third in 1940. He also participated in the famous tournaments of Semmering in 1926 where he finished 14th and Kecskemet in 1927 where he took the 7th position.
