Gaige Jeremy (09.10.1927 – 19.02.2011)
American chess journalist and archivist.
He began his journalism career as a copyboy at the New York Times and contributed obituaries to the New York Herald Tribune. He was later a radio and television editor at the Syracuse Herald-Journal, editorial editor at the Toledo Blade, and a reporter at the Wall Street Journal.
His main works were the publications of A Catalog of Chess-players and Problemist in 1969 then in 1986 Chess Personalia –A Bibliography (reprinted in 2005) which provided vital statistics on about 14,000 chess personalities from all countries and periods. Finally between 1969-1974 he released four volumes of Tournament Crosstables which included about 2000 crosstables going from 1850 until 1930.Mr. Gaige was inducted into the Chess Hall of Fame in 1970.
