Flórián Tibor (02.03.1919 – 28.01.1990)
Hungarian International Master (1950), International Arbiter 1951, author and problemist. Florian was the general secretary of the Hungarian Chess Union from 1961 until 1984, the chief arbiter at the 1969 Women Olympiad and chief editor of Magyar Sakkélet from 1983 until 1984.
At the age of fifteen, Florian published his first chess problems and in 1945 he became a national Master. Florian repeatedly participated in the national championships: 1951, 8th; 1955, 7th; 1958, 4th-5th and 1959, 6th- 7th.
Best results at International competitions: Belgrade 1948 1st-2nd; Bucharest 1949, 4th-5th; 1951, 3rd-4th and San-Benedetto-del-Tronto 1957, 3rd. A participant in the 10th Olympiad of 1952, the European Team Championship in 1961 and in a number of matches with Soviet chess players.
The author of The Schielmann-Variante der spanischen Eroffnung (1970), Spassky oder Fischer (1972), Defence and Counter Attack (1983) and Entscheindung in der Schluβrunde (1987).
