Duras Oldrich (30.10.1882 – 05.01.1957)

duras_oldrich_2Czech Grandmaster (1950), a leading Czech player and chess composer in the early years of the 20th century. Duras won the Czechoslovakian championship thrice (1905, 1907 and 1909) and he also tied for first in the German Championship of 1912.

Best results: at Nuremberg 1906, 2nd; Vienna 1907, 2nd;   Hamburg 1910, 2nd; Prague 1908, 1st;  and Vienna 1908, 1st equal with Maroczy and Schlechter, ahead of Rubinstein.

His last appearance in international play was at Mannheim 1914. Later the same year, he married a rich wife and withdrew from international competitions.
