Dolmatovsky Boris (06.07.1942)
Russian chess amateur, journalist and famous chess photographer. As a child, he became fond of chess and took lessons at the Pioneer Palace of Moscvoreck, where Vassily Smyslov used to play. A participant in the Moscow youth championships. Received the 1st category rank. Champion of the town of Zvenigorod, Moscow region (1957) where his family used to spend each summer. After army service and studying electronic machinery and journalism (this is text) , he worked for the press as well as working as an engineer. Since photography became his hobby, he started to travel to various chess events taking pictures. Those events include Mallorca tournament, Kasparov-Karpov match in Sevilla, Kasparov-Short match in London, Kasparov-Anand in New York, Karpov-Anand match in Lausanne, 1988 Olympiads in Thessaloniki, Tilburg (Holland), Paris and more. Dolmatovsky has participated in numerous photography contests – World Press Photo (Holland), Germany (1987), Health for All (Switzerland, 1988), Spain (Reus, photosport 1983, 1984, 1990), Latvia (1988), Bulgaria (Gabrovo), various contests in Russia where he won medals, prizes and certificates. His works were published in Soviet and Russian press, including main newspapers and books, and in foreign press (England, France, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Latvia). Personal photography exhibitions: Elista (Kalmykia), Moscow (Foreign Trade Center, Izmaylovo, Social University of Russia, the central chess club, “Moscow Pravda” HQ, the Kremlin), Mallorca (Spain). Dolmatovsky continues to practice photography and to play in senior chess tournaments. He participated in the 1999 world chess championship for journalists in Lausanne.
