Joaquim Durao (1930-21.05.2015), a Portuguese International Master who was 13 times Portuguese champion.
Karoly Honfi (1930-14.08.1996), a Hungarian International Master who was twice a member of the Hungarian team on the chess olympiads .
James Terry Sherwin (1933), an American International Master living in England. He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Bath in December, 2007.

Ray Robson (1994), an American Grandmaster. A 2009 US Junior Champion who was a member of the US team who won the gold at the 2016 Olympiad.

Vitaly Halberstadt, (20.03.1903-1967), a French player born in Ukraine, author, and chess composer.
Arpad Vajda (1896-1967), a Hungarian International Master who won the 1928 Hungaria, championship.
Paul Johner (10.09.1887-1938), Swiss Master who was 6 times Swiss Champions.

CHESS EVENTS

1955 25.10 Following the wishes of Mrs. Alekhine, the body of Alexander Alekhine was removed from Portugal and transferred to Paris. A FIDE delegation including the President met in Paris to commemorate the death of the World Champion.
1976 25.10 The Olympiads started in Haifa, Israel with 48 participants. For the first time, a Swiss system was used for the men. For political reasons, many countries like the USSR and Hungary decided to boycott the event in Israel. A parallel tournament was organized in Libya with Arab, African, and some Eastern European countries.
1995 E. Vasiukov (RUS) and N. Gaprindashvili (GEO) won the World Senior Championships in Bad Lebenzell, Germany.
2015 In Dresden, Germany, Alexey Smirnov of (RUS)  became the World Chess Champion for Disabled 2015. Silver medal went to Babarykin Stanislav (RUS)

WORLD EVENTS
