BIRTHS

Laszlo Szabo (1917-08.08.1998), a Hungarian Grandmaster, author, and coach. Szabó was the best player in Hungary for nearly 20 years
Josef Kling (1811-01.12.1876), a German player and chess composer, one of the founders of the modern etude. A professor of music.
Eduard Gufeld (1936-23.09.2003), a Ukrainian Grandmaster who was living in the USA, Honored Coach of USSR, a theorist, coach, author, journalist, and commentator.
Tatania Lemachko (1948) a Swiss Women Grandmaster (1977) born in Russia. He was living in Bulgaria, and then in 1982, she defected from the Bulgarian team on the eve of the last round of the Lucerne Olympiad in 1982 to reach Switzerland.
Thorhallsson Throstur (1969), an Icelandic Grandmaster.
Andrey Orlov (1977),  a Russian Grandmaster.
Stefen Bromberger (1982) a German Grandmaster who won two German youth national titles.

DEATHS

Eugene Cook (18.05.1830- 1915), an American chess composer. Co-author of the “American Chess Nuts” containing 2 400 positions.
Carlos Torre (29.11.1904-1978), the first Mexican Grandmaster.

CHESS EVENTS
