Kenneth Samuel Howard (12.04.1882-1972) US chess composer how published few books about chess composition.
Lev Aronin (1920-03.10 1983), Soviet International Master who, at the 18th USSR ch., scored 11/17 for a tie of 2nd–4th places, behind only Paul Keres.
Dijana Dengler (1966), Bosnian player who is running a Chess Academy in Munich. She has participated in a dozen of Women Olympiads.
Michael Richter (1978), German Grandmaster and FIDE Trainer.
Josep Oms Pallisse (1973), Spanish Grandmaster who was 4 times champion of Andorra and got a gold medal for the best performance at second board at the 2006 Olympiad.
Dmitry Maximov (1983), Ukraine Grandmaster.

DEATHS

Johann Lowenthal (15.07.1810-1876), Hungarian chess master and author who was living in London. He played and lost a match vs. P. Morphy.

CHESS EVENTS

1924 The results of the International Amateur Chess Tournament held in connection with the 8th Olympiad in Paris and terminated toward the end of July, was of an outstanding interest to the chess world. The Olympic Tournament for national teams was limited to 18 teams The winner was Czechoslovakia with 31.5 points. The Latvian H. Mattison ranked first individually and earned the title ‘Amateur Champion of the 8th Olympiad.
1924 FIDE was created. At the closing ceremony of the 8th Olympiad Chess Tournament. Mr
Pierre Vincent read “The Protocol of registration” which was unanimously adopted and signed by the delegates.
1949 The President of FIDE, Dr. Alexander Rueb, after 24 years of devoted and almost unparalleled services for the benefit of international chess, gave up his office and his place was taken by Folke Rogard of Sweden.
1950 Following the proposal from the USA and Canada, on one side and the proposal of the USSR on the other side, FIDE welcomed the two German Chess Federations as full members: Federal Republic of Germany (Deutscher Schachbund) and Democratic Republic of Germany (Deutscher Sport Ausschuss).
1958 The USSR team composed by M. Tal, B. Spassky, B. Gurgenidze, A. Gipslis, A. Nikitin
and Y. Nikolaevsky won the 5th World Student Team Championship in Varna, Bulgaria.
1968 At the Candidates Semi-Final in Malmö, Sweden, B. Spassky USSR beat B. Larsen DEN 5½-2½.
1979 M. Tempone (ARG) won the World Championship for Boys under the age of 17 in Belfort, France.
2007 In Cali Colombia, Julio Granda of Peru and Marisa Zuriel of Argentina became the American Continental Champions for Men and Women.
