Czerniak Moshe (03.02.1910 – 31.08.1984)
Israeli International Master (1952), writer and journalist. Czerniak was born in Poland and emigrated to the Palestine in 1934. Playing the 1939 Olympiad when WWII has broken, he decided to stay in Argentina until 195o before to settle in Israel.
Israeli Champion in 1936, 1938 and 1955. He represented Palestine at the Olympiad of 1935 and 1939 then Israel between 1952 and 1968.
Best results: Buenos Aires 1939, 3rd; Quilmes 1941, 1st; Mar del Plata 1948, 4th; Vienna 1951, 1st; Reggio Emilia 1951, 1st; 1965 Netanya 1965, 1st; Netanya 1968, 2nd behind R. Fischer.
In 1956 he founded the first Israeli chess magazine. For more than thirty years he was the chess editor of the Israeli daily Haaretz.
