Cramling Pia (23.04.1963)
Swedish Grandmaster (1992) and Women Grandmaster (1982). European Women Champion in 2003 and 2010. In 1983 she was ranked women number one in the world, and held that position for two years.
Her famous victims include two World champions, Boris Spassky, Vassily Smyslov and Viktor Korchnoi. She held the former World champions Anatoly Karpov and Vishy Anand to a draw once and she has drawn three times with Alexei Shirov.
She has won quite a few Opens and tournaments like Biel Accentus 2006 and the MonRoi Grand Prix 2007. In 2008 and in 2015, she was a semi-finalist at the women world chess championship.
She was also a member of the Monte-Carlo team who four times the European Club Cup.
In 1978, when she was 15, Pia was in the Swedish women’s team for the Olympiad. She played in the women’s team at the Olympiads in 1982, 1984 and 1988 then came back in 2006. She has played on six occasions for the Swedish men’s team, in 1990, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2004.
Cramling, married to the Spanish Grandmaster Juan Manuel Bellón López, lived in Spain for a number of years but in 2011 moved back to Sweden.
