WORLD CUP
Originally, it was a top tournament organized by FIDE for men and women with a prize fund of over US$ 400,000. The tournament was first organized in 2000 and 2002 using the KO format system.
The first event organized in China was won by Vishy Anand and Xu Yuhua. India hosted the second event which saw the same winners.
Then, in 2005, the tournament with 128 players, for men only, became qualification for the World Championship cycle.
The winners were:
2005 Levon Aronian (ARM), 2007 Gata Kamsky (USA), 2009 Boris Gelfand (ISR) and 2011 Peter Svidler (RUS), 2013 Vladimir Kramnik (RUS), 2015 Sergey Karjakin (RUS), 2017 Levon Aronian (ARM), 2019 Teimour Radjabov (AZE).
