VIENNA

The capital historical city of Austria. One of the main world chess centres at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries. The events of 1898, 1908 and 1922 are considered as world class tournaments.
The first international Open in Vienna was organized in 1976 and since that time it is  organized in an irregular cycle. Since 2009 under the directorship of Johann Poecksteiner, the tournament becomes one of the biggest open tournaments in Europe with 600 to almost 900 players from more than 50 countries.
