REGGIO EMILIA
A City in northern Italy which has hosted a traditional chess festival since 1951. One of the ideas of Enrico Paoli, the Torneo di Capodanno has been during the past few decades, the strongest tournament in the country. The peak was in 1991 when for the thirty-fourth tournament, the organizers managed to reach category 19 (an average of 2676), one of the strongest world events at that time won by Vishy Anand ahead of Boris Gelfand and Garry Kasparov. Due to economic reasons the tournament stopped in 2012.
