NATIONAL OPEN

The National Open is one of America’s longest-running, premier open tournaments, first established by Ed Edmondson in the 1960s. Fred Gruenberg and Al Losoff have been responsible for the National Open for more than the past two decades and have built its well-deserved reputation as “The Chess Vacation of the Year,” in recent years.

The festival is organized every year in June in Las Vegas with at least a $100,000 Guarantee Prize Fund and a Replica of the Edmondson Cup. The tournament includes nine sections for all strengths and ages. In 2011, the attendance of the National Open was 930 players.
