LUGANO
A city in Switzerland which hosted the 1968 Olympiad, a Grandmaster Tournament in 1970 and one of the strongest Swiss Opens, sponsored by the Banco de Gottardo from 1976 until 1989. The winners were: 1970 Bent Larsen, 1976 Heikki Westerinen, 1978 Robert Hess, 1979 Sergio Mariotti, 1980 Bella Toth, 1981 Bojan Kurajica, 1982 Viktor Korchnoi, 1983 Yasser Seirawan, 1984 Gyula Sax, 1985 Vladimir Tukmakov, 1986 1-4 Viktor Korchnoi, Lev Gutman, Jim Plasket and Vlatimil Hort, 1987 Yasser Seirawan, 1988 Lubomir Ftačnik and in 1989 Viktor Korchnoi.
