A city in Switzerland which hosted the World Championship 1998 Final Match Karpov-Anand.
Between 1999 and 2006 the Lausanne Young Masters was a yearly event where eight of the best world juniors were invited to compete in an eight-player two-game match competition, with the losers going into play-offs to decide the overall order. Since 2007 the event became a tournament opens to all participants.

The winners were: 1999 Etienne Bacrot, 2000 Alexander Grischuk, 2001 Lazaro Bruzon, 2003 Luke McShane, 2004 Luke McShane, 2005 Andrei Volokitin and 2006 Maxime Vachier Lagrave, 2007 Pauline Guichard, 2008 Alexandre Dgebuadze, 2009 Sebastian Siebrecht, 2010 Alexandre Dgebuadze, 2011 Cristian Bauer, 2012 Tigran Gharamian, 2013 Andrei Istratescu.

In 2020 the third leg of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix was held in Lausanne.

The winner was Nana Dzagnidze.
