German Grandmaster (1990). German Champion in 2013 and 2015. 11 times German Rapid Chess Champion and silver medallist at the 2009 German championship.
Best results: Winner at Budapest 1985, at Lugano (joint) in 1988, Kecskemet 1988, Arosa 1996, Recklinghausen 1996 and 1997, Boblingen 1997, St. Ingbert 1998, Recklinghausen 1999, Hastings II 1999, Golombek Memorial (joint) 2000 and Essen 2000 and at Bad Zwesten 2003 and in 2005.
A participant in few Olympiads between 1986 and 2004, he was a member of the national team which won the silver at the 2000 Olympiad, twice the bronze medal at the European Team Chess Championship, in 1989 and 2001 and a member of the national team which won the World Senior Team Championship in 2016.
