He was second at the Marshall Chess Club Popular Championship in 1993 and second at the Manhattan GM in 1999.
Professional coach with his own online university, he is also an appreciated writer and a commentator. In 1996 and 1997, he commented the two matches between world champion Garry Kasparov and IBM’s Deep Blue.
Ashley was named 2003 Grandmaster of the Year by the US Chess Federation, on April 13, 2016, GM Ashley was inducted officially into the US Hall of Fame.
