Amelung Friedrich Ludwig Balthasar (23.03.1842 – 23.03.1909)

Latvian chess player, endgame composer, and journalist who studied philosophy and chemistry at the University of Dorpat.

He played a few games with Adolf Anderssen, and published about 230 endgame studies.

He was also editor of Baltische Schachblätter (1888-1908).
