Allgaier Johann Baptist (19.06.1763 – 03.01.1823)
Catholic Priest and author of the first chess book published in German Neue Theorisch Praktische Answeisung zum Schachspiel published in 1795 and reprinted 7 times until 1843. He went to live in Vienna and operated the chess automation The Turk (1798-1896), when it beat Napoleon Bonaparte in 1809. He served as quartermaster accountant in the Austrian army. He died of dropsy.
