Alexandria Nana Georgieva (13.10.1949)

Alexandria-Nana-GeorgievaGeorgian Woman Grandmaster (1976). Chairwoman of the FIDE Women Commission 1986-2001. International Arbiter and chess journalist.

Playing first, at the age of 15, in the USSR Championships – shared 6-7 places. She was the Champion of USSR in 1966, 1968, 1969 and Champion of Georgia in 1964, 1965, 1968, also was 2nd at the Men Championship of Georgia in 1980.
A participant in 8 Women’s World Championship cycle between 1966 and 1988, she has participated twice in the final Candidates Matches with a lost to Nona Gaprindashvili for the Women Championship Final in 1975  3½-8½, and a drew with Maya Chiburdanidze in 1981 8-8.

She has participated and won many Olympiads between 1966 and 1986.

She was the winner of a row of women international tournaments: Tbilisi 1968, Belgrade 1969 and 1979, Wijk aan Zee 1970, 1977, Budapest 1976, Pyatigorsk 1978, Novi Sad 1979, Yatse 1983, Biel 1986, 1987, Madras 1987…

Mikhail Tal said that she is an “uncommonly versatile chess player”. She plays through with equal success both complicated combinational positions and positional endgames.
