Adorjan Andras (31.03.1950)
Hungarian Grandmaster (1973), theorist and coach. Hungarian Champion in 1973 and 1984 and European Junior Champion in 1970.
Adorjan was a participant in several Olympiads which includes the historical victory in 1978 and four European Championships (in 1983 showed the best result on Board 5 with 5½ points out of 7). A participant at the Interzonals –Riga 1979-3-4th (drew the match for the third place with Zoltan Ribli 3-3), lost a quarter-final candidates’ match to Robert Huebner- 4½-5½ (1980, Bad-Lautenberg). Best results: Beverwijk 1972, 2-3rd; Varna 1972, 1st; Budapest 1982, 1st; Olot 1974, 1st; Lanzarote 1975, 1st; Banja Luka 1983, 1st; Sarajevo 1983, 2-3rd; New York 1987, 1-2nd.
Author of a couple of chess books: Black is OK, Black is Still OK and Black is OK Forever, he worked for some time in the early 80’s with Garry Kasparov. Retired from international chess since 2000.
Peak rating: 2565 in 1992.
