U.S. Grandmaster (1990) born in Ukraine who was living in New York for ten years before to move back to Ukraine to start a business. Ukraine Champion in 1989. Coach and chess theorist. Graduated in economics.
Best results: won or shared first at Poznan 1985, Sevastopol 1986, Lvov 1986, Tuzla GM 1989, Antwerp Open 1995, Korinthos Open 1999, Marshall Chess Club Championship 2002, the 2003 National Chess Congress, and the 2004 UTD Grand Master Invitational Chess Tournament, Chicago Open in 2005.
A participant in the 1992 and 1996 Olympiads for Ukraine and in 2004 with the U.S. team. A member of the Soviet team which won the World U26 in 1985 and the Spartakiad with the Ukrainian team in 1986.
Peak rating: 2616 in 1999. Novikov is inactive since 2012.
