English Grandmaster (2000), the youngest-ever British player to achieve both the IM title (at age 13) and the GM title (age 16). Graduated in philosophy and mathematics, he was working for some time as a trader. World Champion U10 in 1992 and silver medalist at the World U20 in 2002. British U9 Champion.
Best results: won or shared first at Bunratty Masters 1998, Norkom Euro Masters 2000, Greenland Open 2003, Malmö Masters 2003, Lausanne Masters 2003 and 2004, Igualada 2005, Rilton Cup 2009/2010, Canadian Open 2010, Wijk aan Zee Tata B 2011 and Washington Open 2015.
Also, he shared second at Politiken Cup 2003 and London Chess Classical 2010, third at North Sea Cup 2001, Pamplona 2003 and Drammen 2005.
A participant in the Olympiads since 2002. He was voted BCF’s Player of the Year in 1997 and 2004.
Peak rating: 2713 in 2012, then being the second world ranked among junior players.
