Hungarian Grandmaster (1964). Hungarian co-champion in 1962 but lost the playoff to Lajos Portisch.
Best results: winner at Solingen 1968, Reggio Emilia 1972-73.
A participant in six Olympiads between 1960 and 1970, he was awarded one bronze and one silver, respectively, in 1966 and 1970. Lengyel also played in the 1964 Amsterdam Interzonal where he finished 12th.
