Kostic Bora (24.02.1887 – 03.11.1963)

Yugoslav Grandmaster (1950). Kostic represented Yugoslavia in the Olympiads of 1927, 1931, 1935 and 1937 and was the first Yugoslav vice-champion with Vasja Pirc in 1935.

Best results: Winner or shared first in Stockholm 1913, Chicago 1918, Hastings 1921-22, Trentschin-Teplitz 1928, Budapest 1936 and Ljubljana 1938.   He defeated Georg Wiarda at a match in Cologne, 1911 +5-0=3, Gustaf Nyholm in Stockholm, 1913 +3-1=1, he lost to Jose Capablanca in Buenos Aires, 1915 +2-12=0, defeated Jackson Showalter in Frankfurt, 1916 +7-2 and lost again to Capablanca in Havana, 1918 +0-5=0.

On June 4th, 1916 Kostic established a record of twenty games played in a simultaneous blindfold match in New York. He was a tireless traveler, he visited and promoted chess in Asia and Africa and also spent time in Argentina and the USA.
