Klinger Josef (06.06.1967)

KlingerAustrian Grandmaster (1988). Klinger won the bronze medal at the World Junior 1985. Austrian Champion in 1985 and in 1993.

Klinger’s major victories include: Zug 1985, Berlin Open, Bad Worishofen Open, Lichtenstein Open, Biel Open 1988, Bern, Oberwart, Werfen, Zurich and Bad Worishofen 1990, Suhr, Werfen and Zurich 1991.

Best Austrian chess player since 1945 he led the Austrian national team in the Olympiads between 1986 and 1990. In 1986 he won a silver medal for the second best individual performance at board one with a score of 9:3.

Klinger disappeared from the world of chess in the middle of the 1990’s to become a professional poker player. In April 2010 he finished second at the Monte-Carlo Grand Final European Poker Tour, winning a prize of 1,000,000€.
