Azerbaijani Grandmaster (2002). Azerbaijan U10 champion in 1995 and 1996, U12 in 1998 and U20 champion in 2001, Azerbaijan co-champion 2001. Vice World U10 champion in 1996, co-European U12 championship 1998, 3^rd equal World U20 championship 2003, 4^th World U12 in 1997.

Best results: Acropolis 2005, 1^st; Istanbul festival 2006, 2^nd; Abu Dhabi Open 2006, 1^st; Capelle la Grande Open 2007, 1-7^th; Artic chess challenge 200 7, 2^nd; Pontevedra Open 2007, 1-2^nd; Capelle la Grande 2008, 1^st; Baku GP, 1-3^rd; Poikovsky 2008, 1-4^th, Reggio Emilia 2011, 1^st.

A member of the national team since 2002, he was awarded a team gold and an individual silver medal at the European Team Championship in 2009.

In 2005, the doctors diagnosed Gashimov with epilepsy and a brain tumor, he died in the early hours of 11 January 2014.

Peak rating: 2760 in 2011, he was the 6th best world ranked player in 2009.
