Donner Johannes Hendrikus (26.10.1927 – 27.11.1988)

Dutch Grandmaster (1959), author and journalist. Dutch Championships in 1954, 1957, and 1958.He was the winner of the Dutch Championships of 1954, 1957, 1958.

Best results: Beverwijk II in 1948 and 1949, 1st; Beverwijk 1958, 1^st; Beverwijk 1963, 1^st; Amsterdam 1965, 1^st; Venice 1967,1^st; in the strong event at Leiden in 1970, 2^nd.

A participant in 12 Olympiads from 1950 until 1978, at the 1962 Olympiad he made the sensation by beating Boby Fischer.

Donner edited the chess column at ‘De Tijd’ from 1956 till 1974, then the chess column in the ‘Volkskrant’.
