Dlugy Maxim (1966)

Dlugy-MaximAmerican Grandmaster (1986) born in Russia who emigrated to America in 1977. World U20 Champion in 1985. USCF President (1990-1993).

Best results: Gausdal 1982, 1st; 1984 US Championship, 3rd; 5 in Dubai. New York Open 1985, 2nd; Clichy 1986-87, 2nd; 1987 US championship, 3rd; San Bernardino 1987, 1st; Philadelphia Open 1988, 1st; Long Beach 1989, 1st; Las Vegas 1993, 1st.

In 1991 he stopped playing chess actively and went to financial business then back to his native country. Things did go well until April 2005 when  he was arrested by the Russian police on fraud charges. On December 20, 2005. Dlugy was acquitted of all charges, after spending eight months in jail.
He went then back to New York and opened in 2016 his own chess academy.
