Hungarian Grandmaster (1973). International Arbiter (1992). Hungarian  Champion in 1972 and 1973.

Best results: won or shared first at Amsterdam IBM II 1969, Olot in 1972, Hamburg 1974, Cleveland 1975, Olot 1975, Pula zl 1975. Hannover 1976, Berlin 1979, Corfu 1982, Politiken Cup 1983, Jarvenpaa 1985, New Delhi 1987, Silkebord 1988, Tel Aviv 1989, Siofok Hungaroil 1990 and Ter Apel 1990.

Csom has participated in six Olympiads including the 1978 Olympiad of Buenos Aires where Hungary took the gold.
In 1970 he was awarded a bronze medal for the best third result at board 5.
