Bondarevsky Igor Zakharovich (12.05.1913 – 14.06.1979)
Soviet Grandmaster (1950) born in Russia, International Correspondence Grandmaster (1961), International Arbiter (1954). Engineer-economist he lived in St. Petersburg. Co-winner with Lilienthal at the 1940 USSR Championship.
Coach of the USSR team at the “Match of the Century” in 1970. Coach of Paul Keres in 1948, of Efim Geller 1952-1956, Vassily Smyslov 1957 and Boris Spassky 1961-1969.
Best results: He finished 6th in the 1948 Interzonal then he qualified for the 1950 Candidate’s tournament but illness prevents him from playing. He participated in 6 USSR championships
A member of USSR team–board 1 which won the World Chess Correspondence Championship 1958-1964.
Chess theorist and writer, he published Combination in the Middle Game (1960) translated few times in English (1967 and 1977).
