Agzamov Georgy Tadjievich (06.09.1954 – 27.08.1986)

Soviet International Grandmaster (1984), the first Grandmaster in Uzbekistan. Philologist. A participant in few USSR championships and a member of the winning Soviet team at the 2^nd Telex Olympiad.

Best results: Belgrade 1983, 1^st; Vrsac 1983, 1^st; Sochi 1984, 1^st; Tunha 1984, 1^st; Bogota 1984, 1^st; Potsdam 1985, 2^nd; Calicut 1986, 1^st. At the 1982 FIDE Zonal in Yerevan, he shared 7-8th places with Sergey Dolmatov.

Mark Taimanov said: “he was an extremely persistent chess player, with a splendid tactic eye-sight.”Agzamov was accidentally killed when he tried to take a shortcut to go swimming and fell between two rocks.

Memorial tournaments have been organized in Tashkent in 1986, 1987 and since 2007.
