Agzamov Georgy Tadjievich (06.09.1954 – 27.08.1986)
Soviet International Grandmaster (1984), the first Grandmaster in Uzbekistan. Philologist. A participant in few USSR championships and a member of the winning Soviet team at the 2nd Telex Olympiad.
Best results: Belgrade 1983, 1st; Vrsac 1983, 1st; Sochi 1984, 1st; Tunha 1984, 1st; Bogota 1984, 1st; Potsdam 1985, 2nd; Calicut 1986, 1st. At the 1982 FIDE Zonal in Yerevan, he shared 7-8th places with Sergey Dolmatov.
Mark Taimanov said: “he was an extremely persistent chess player, with a splendid tactic eye-sight.”Agzamov was accidentally killed when he tried to take a shortcut to go swimming and fell between two rocks.
Memorial tournaments have been organized in Tashkent in 1986, 1987 and since 2007. The winners were: 1986 Igor Novikov, 1987 Gennadi Kuzmin, 2007 Leonid Yurtaev, 2009 Vitaly Tseshkovsky, 2010 Maxim Turov, 2011 Tigran Petrosian 2012 Maxim Turov, 2013 Pavel Maletin, 2014 Abhijeet Gupta, 2015 Vladislav Artemiev, 2016 Amonatov, 2018 Kirill Stupak.
