WORLD BLITZ CHAMPIONSHIP
After 2 major tries like in 1970 when Bobby Fischer won a very strong tournament in Yugoslavia or in 1988 when Mihail Tal won the first unofficial championship organized in St. John, Canada, it is only in 2005 that FIDE decided to organizer the World Championship on an annual basis with the participation of the best world players. The prize fund is usually between 100,000 (2005) and 1.100,000 USD (2017). Since 2009, the tempo of the game is 3 minutes plus 2 seconds per move.

The Women’s World Blitz chess championships were organized only 7 times however once a year the highest rated meet in China at SportAccord or Imsa blitz/rapid chess games.
