1883. In England, Zukertort topped Steinitz at the London tourney. The organizers managed to collect a prize fund of ₤ 1,100, a fortune at that time. It was the peak of Zukertort chess’ career. Just after it, Steinitz invited him to play the first World Chess Championship.
1897. The first ‘Ladies’ International Tournament began at Hotel Cecil, London.
