1883. In England, Zukertort topped Steinitz at the London tourney. The organizers managed to collect a prize fund of ₤ 1,100, a fortune at that time. It was the peak of Zukertort chess’ career. Just after it, Steinitz invited him to play the first World Chess Championship.
