Oldrich Duras (1882-05.01.1957), a Czech Grandmaster and chess composer.
Milko Bobotsov (1931-03.04.2000), the first Bulgarian Grandmaster.
Lubomir Ftacnik (1956), Slovakian Grandmaster, who was  the 1977 European U20 Champion.
Gilberto Milos (1963), a Brazilian Grandmaster who won 6 titles of Brazilian Champion.
Xie Jun (1970), Chinese Grandmaster who was the  Women’s World Chess Champion, from 1991 to 1996 and again from 1999 to 2001.
Alexander Lastin (1976-23.01.2015) Russian Grandmaster who won the 2002 Russian chess championship.
Herminio Herraiz Hidalgo (1978), a Spanish Grandmaster.
Baert Michiels (1986), a Belgian Grandmaster who was Belgian champion in 2004 and 2011.
Jeffery Xiong (2000), an American Grandmaster who was 2016 World U20 Champion and 2006 US Junior Champion. He is the US’s second youngest player to become a Grandmaster.

DEATHS

Boris Verlinsky (08.01.1888-1950), Soviet deaf International Master who was one of the top Soviet players of the 1920’s after winning the Soviet championship in 1929.
Aidyn Guseinov (31.08.1957-2003), an Azerbaijani Grandmaster who won the Azerbaijani championship in 1996.
Agimantas Butnorius (20.11.1946-2017), a Monegasque Grandmaster born in Lithuania who was World Senior Champion in 2007.

CHESS EVENTS

1955 Olga Rubsova of USSR won the 2nd Candidates Women’s Tournament in Moscow.
