Arturo Pomar Salamanca (1931-26.05. 2016), Spanish chess prodigy and Grandmaster. He was a pupil of Alexander Alekhine and the winner of 7 Spanish championships.
Adam Raoof (1966), English player and organizer.
Tigran Kotanjian (1981), Armenian Grandmaster who was the 2014 Champion of Armenia.

DEATHS

Joseph Henry Blackburne (18.12.1841-1924) English Master who started to play at 19 and become chess professional seven years later, one of the strongest players of his time.

CHESS EVENTS

1929 To enable the match for the world title to happen, Efim Bogoljubov agreed to waive his share of the prize fund! Alexander Alekhine wanted US$ 6,000 to play him.
1936 In Munich, Hungary won the ‘unofficial’ Olympiad with 110.5. The event was boycotted by the teams of England and USA who protested against the political color of the event. FIDE also refused to endorse the tournament as the German Chess Federation run by the Nazis was excluded since 1933.
1945 The first international sporting event of any kind after the WWII took place, USSR beat USA (radio-match) 15½ – 4½.
1972 After B. Spassky lost the 21st game, R. Fischer’s victory ended 24 years of Soviet domination over the World Chess title. By winning the match 12½-8½, B. Fischer USA became the 11th World Champion.
1975 V. Chekhov USSR won the 14th World Junior Championship in Tjentiste, Yugoslavia.
2007 In Namibia, Robert Gwaza of Zimbabwe and Mona Khaled of Egypt became the African Champions for men and women.
2015 01.09 In Khanty-Mansiysk Russia, Mikhail Antipov from Russia became the 2015 World U20 Champion and Nataliya Buksa (UKR) won the 2015 World Girls U20.
