Rubtsova Olga Nikolaevna (20.08.1909 – 13.12.1994)

Soviet-Russian Woman Grandmaster (1976), the fourth Women’s World Champion, International Master (1956), International Correspondence Master (women and men 1973), International Arbiter (1964), Honoured Sport Master and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.

Her first success was in 1926 when she won a big junior tournament. In 1927, at the age of 18, she won the first USSR Women’s Championship which she repeated in 1931, 1937 and 1949. In 1950 at the Moscow’s Women’s World Championship Tournament, took the second prize.

In 1956 at the Women’s World Championship with three participants in a match-tournament, emerged in the first place and became the fourth World Champion. However, in 1958 in the return match, she lost her title to Bykova. Rubtsova was four times USSR Women’s Champion and a member of the team which won the 1957 Women Chess Olympiad. In 1972, she won the first Women’s World Correspondence Chess Championship ahead of Lyudmila Rudenko and Elisabeth Bykova.  Rubtsova is the mother of Women Grandmaster Elena Fatalibekova.
