One of the strongest German chess players in 1830’s. An officer.
During the period 1839-40, Bilguer worked with the other members of the Berlin Pleiades to compile the first Handbuch des Schachspiels but died before the work was published. The book was finished by Tassilo von der Lasa in 1843.
The author of Das Zweispringerspiel im Nachzuge, which was published in 1849. He also published articles in several journals anonymously.
He died of chest infection shortly before his 25th birthday.
