Latvian chess master and composer of studies.

A participant with the Latvian team at the first (unofficial) Chess Olympiad of Paris in 1924.

Has popularized the Latvian Gambit as a columnist and chief redactor of the Baltische Schachblätter between 1902 and 1910.
