Frydman Paulino (26.05.1905 – 03.02.1982)

Polish International Master (1955) of almost Grandmaster strength.

Frydman had a nearly consistent record in the Olympiads before the Second World War and he played for his country in all of them from 1928 to 1939, with the exception of London 1927.

He had some excellent tournament results in the period from 1934 until 1941. He was equal third with Salomon Flohr in Budapest 1934 and this was followed by an equal third with Henryk Friedman in Warsaw 1935.  He had a triumph in Helsinki 1936, winning +7=1 ahead of Paul Keres and Gideon Stahlberg, and at the strong tournament in Podebrady that year he took equal sixth, with Erich Eliskases, out of eighteen. His last good tournament in Europe was in Lodz 1938 where he came seventh out of sixteen.

He settled in Argentina after being stranded there in 1939 after the outbreak of the Second World War. At the Buenos Aires, he played his last tournament in 1941 finishing third behind Miguel Najdorf and Stahlberg.  After that event,  he gave up international chess tournaments for health reasons and lived the rest of his life in Argentina.  He died in Buenos Aires.
