MAR DEL PLATA

City in Argentina which hosts a famous International Tournament since 1926. It was primary set up as a huge Round Robin tournament, but progressively the system was replaced with an Open since 1967. Roberto Grau from France was the first winner. Miguel Najdorf had the biggest record of victories – his first one was in 1942. In 1982 and for some years the tournament was sponsored by the newspaper Clarin.
