A Canadian city which hosted eight games of the Emanuel Lasker vs. Wilhelm Steinitz match (1894) and staged in 1979 a super tournament involving few of the best world players, won jointly by the World Champion Anatoly Karpov and former World Champion Mihail Tal with 12/20.Since 1990, Montreal has hosted a chess festival which includes a strong GM tournament.
