Dutch Grandmaster (1989). Dutch Champion in 1984 and 1993. Winner of Zonal 1 in Brussels in 1992, Won or shared first in London II 1980, Montpellier 1985, Dortmund and Ostende Open 1989, Munich 1989, Aoste 1990, Nettetal 1992, Antwerpen Open 1994, Wijk aan Zee II 1997. Lost a Candidates’ match to Kamsky 2½-4½ in 1994. He participated in eight Olympiads from 1982 to 2000 with a bronze medal for the Dutch Team performance in 1988. Co-editor of New in Chess Yearbook until 2002. Is presently retiring from chess. Best ELO: 2605 in 1994.
