Spraggett Kevin Berry (10.11.1954)

Spraggett-Kevin-BerryCanadian Grandmaster (1985). One of the strongest chess players of Canada. Seven times Champion of Canada in 1984, 1986, 1989, 1994, 1996, 2001 and 2002. Commonwealth Champion in 1984 and 1985, eight times Canadian Open Champion. Tied first in the Canadian Junior in 1974. Kevin participated in the Interzonal Tournament in Tasco in 1985 where he was the fourth and in the Candidates’ Tournament at Montpellier in 1985, he finished in the sixteenth place. He was a Candidate twice: he did not make the final play-offs at Montpellier 1985, while in 1988 he beat Andrei Sokolov 6½-5½ but was defeated in 1989 by Arthur Yussupov 4-5. Won or shared the victory at the World Open 1983, New York Open 1984, Montreal 1983 and 1986, Toronto 1983, Quebec 1986, Salou Open 2006, Figueira da Foz 2007. A participant in nine Olympiads from 1986 until 2002, in 2000 he was awarded a silver medal for the best individual performance at board 2.
