Best results: won or shared first at Vlissingen 1998, Abu Dhabi Intl Master 2002, Open Dutch Championship 2002. Second in the Chennai Open in 2004 and third in Kolkata Open 2008.
Safin has participated in four Olympiads between 1998 and 2002, in the World Team Championship in 2001 and the World Championship in 2001.
Safin died on 20 September 2009 of blood cancer.
