Kazakh Grandmaster. World Junior Champion in 1998. Bronze medalist in the 2005 Asian Championship. Kazakh Champion in 2003 and 2004.

Best results: won or shared first at Liepaja Rapid (LAT) 2000, Jafta Open 2000, Belgrade Millenium 2000, Skanderborg (DEN) 2003, Politiken CUP 2004, Miami Open 2007 and 2008 and Foxwood Open 2008. Also second in Curacao Open 2003.

In matches, he beat Viktor Korchnoi 5-3 in 2003 and Anatoly Karpov 2½-1½ in 2004.

He has participated in all the Olympiads between 1998 and 2004 and in the World Championships in 1999 and 2004. Mostly retired from chess since 2009.
