Rodriguez Vargas Orestes (04.07.1943)

Spanish Grandmaster (1978) born in Peru. He was awarded a silver medal for the second best result at board 1 of the 1978 Olympiad. Best results: Sao Paolo 1972; 4^th-6^th; Alicante 1974 and 1975, 1^st; Alicante 1977 and 1981, 2^nd-4^th; Reggio Emilia 1974-75, 1^st-2^nd; Orense, Arresiphe and Lanzarote 1977, 1^st; Las Palmas 1978; 1^st-2^nd; Barcelona 1977-79, 1^st; Rome 1980, 4^th-5^th; Madrid 1981, 1^st; Salamanca 1987, 2^nd-3^rd. A participant in the Olympiads from 1964 until 1988 with the Peruvian team and in the 1992 Olympiad with the Spanish team. In 2005 he was a member of the Catalan team which got the bronze at the European Senior Team Championship and collected a gold medal for the best performance at board 1 with 7½/8. Best ELO: 2500 in 1990.
