Plachetka Jan (18.02.1945)

Slovakian Grandmaster (1978), trainer, chess journalist, and an engineer. Slovakian Champion in 1993 and vice Czechoslovakian Champion in 1992. Plachetka was equal first at Polanica Zdroj 1975, and first at Novi Sad 1976, Maribor and Vinkovci 1977, Sofia 1979 (VI), Trnava 1979 (VIII), Stary Smokovec 1979, Keszthely 1981, Titograd 1982, Novi Sad 1983, Prague 1984, Strasbourg 1985 (VII), Metz 1986, Paris 1989, Olomouc 2002, Lippstadt 2005, Umag 2006 and Charleroi 2008.

A participant in seven the Olympiad between 1974 and 1986 with Czechoslovakia and in 1994 and 2002 with Slovakia. A participant in the World Chess Students’ Championships in 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969.

Peak rating: 2480 in 1980.
